HQ reference revision 2: same-episode distinct speaker pairs, checked reference language, and empty GENERAL matching podcast SFT. Original diagnostic run. Model weights are unchanged. This revision changes several conditioning details and is not a single-factor ablation.
Selected model: NotebookLM + rank 64 · final 652, merged at scale 1. Thirty new dialogue scripts test two, six and eight alternating turns. Ten short exchanges, ten approximately 30–40-second conversations, and ten up to one minute. EN/DE/FR/ES are included; unreliable Dutch source labels are excluded. Each conversation is generated jointly as one waveform, not assembled from separately generated turns.
Both identity references are distinct diarized speakers from the same HQ training-source episode. The episode’s beginning and middle background scores each pass 4.05; each actual 5–15-second crop additionally passes BAK 4.0, production quality 7.5 and Content Enjoyment 5.5. Stored text and fresh ASR pass the explicit language heuristic. Crops may lie outside the original score windows; they are independently scored. The reference players contain original-media crops, not the codec reconstructions used by the previous grid. The model still receives the corresponding twelve-codebook MOSS representation. References are reused across length conditions, and every script is newly written. These are new-text, in-domain voice demonstrations, not a held-out-speaker benchmark. No past conversation is supplied in this cold-start test.
Controls: speaker identity is routed through S1/S2 reference blocks; each SCRIPT turn includes its speaker, delivery and requested duration. Sampling uses temperature 1, top-p .95, top-k 50, CFG 1, one fixed seed per topic. Durations and turn boundaries are instructions, not forced edits. EARS quality predictions and ASR WER describe complete outputs in windows up to 30 seconds. Listen to judge speaker switches; requested labels alone do not establish correct diarization.
Language checks validate the reference transcripts, not the generated dialogue. High generated ASR error is a real limitation of this demonstration and requires listening review; it is not hidden by selecting only favorable examples.

S1 (warm, curious, relaxed conversational delivery) [7.19 seconds] I tried making coffee without looking at my phone this morning. It felt oddly peaceful, actually.
S2 (engaged, friendly, spontaneous conversational reply) [7.19 seconds] That sounds lovely. Although I would probably spend the whole time wondering whether the kettle was taking longer.
S1 (warm, curious, relaxed conversational delivery) [7.19 seconds] Exactly! At first I kept reaching for a notification that was not even there. Then I noticed the rain.
S2 (engaged, friendly, spontaneous conversational reply) [7.19 seconds] We fill every little gap, don’t we? Sometimes the nicest part of a morning is that nothing happens.
S1 (warm, curious, relaxed conversational delivery) [7.19 seconds] And the coffee tasted better. Not because I made it differently, but because I finally paid attention.
S2 (engaged, friendly, spontaneous conversational reply) [7.19 seconds] Well, now you have turned a cup of coffee into a small philosophy lesson. I am surprisingly convinced.
S1 (warm, curious, relaxed conversational delivery) [7.19 seconds] Let’s not get carried away. Tomorrow I might forget the water and just stare thoughtfully at the empty cup.
S2 (engaged, friendly, spontaneous conversational reply) [7.19 seconds] Honestly, that would still be a very committed experiment. We should report back next week.

S1 (warm, curious, relaxed conversational delivery) [7.19 seconds] That happened yesterday. There was a bookshop with a sleeping dog right beside the door. I almost missed it.
S2 (engaged, friendly, spontaneous conversational reply) [7.19 seconds] A sleeping dog is an excellent recommendation. It suggests the atmosphere is relaxed and the customers are trustworthy.

S1 (warm, curious, relaxed conversational delivery) [7.19 seconds] I finally played that difficult passage on the piano without stopping. Only once, but I am counting it.
S2 (engaged, friendly, spontaneous conversational reply) [7.19 seconds] You absolutely should. One good attempt means your hands have discovered that the thing is possible.
S1 (warm, curious, relaxed conversational delivery) [7.19 seconds] The funny part is that I had been practising it faster and faster, which mostly made it sound worse.
S2 (engaged, friendly, spontaneous conversational reply) [7.19 seconds] Then somebody told you to slow down, and you were deeply offended by this very sensible advice?
S1 (warm, curious, relaxed conversational delivery) [7.19 seconds] A little! But after a few quiet minutes, I could actually hear where I was rushing ahead.

S1 (warm, curious, relaxed conversational delivery) [7.19 seconds] Ich habe gestern endlich das Brot selbst gebacken. Die Küche sah danach allerdings ziemlich abenteuerlich aus.
